for everyone

Under a lorry, unable to move, traumatised and shocked to numbness lay Honey, just a fraile and tender 3 month puppy, her skinny frame trembling, hips and ribs showing, and her eyes wide with fear and pain. There was literally no skin left on her front left leg, it was just a raw and bleeding mass of tissue, blood and bone. She was probably ran over by the many heavy vehicles plying that area, another hit and run victim, and was just waiting for the relief of death to take over ...

She was rushed to the vet and was immediately given medication for her pain and trauma, but the diagnosis was grim. We were initially hopeful that Honey's leg could be saved, but the vet said there was too much infection and the muscles and tendons were all torn up, and amputation was the only way to save her. We decided to go with the vet's recommendation on the basis that she was young and strong and would learn to deal with the handicap.
Honey's operation went smoothly without any complications and is now recuperating at foster homes, but the psychological scars would take a long while to heal.

Throughout her ordeal and suffering, Honey wasn't aggressive inspite of her pain and was not resistant to the treatment. Either she was too weak, or she knew we were trying to help ...

It's been about a week now at the foster home, and Honey has been quietly lying on her side, unable or unwilling to stand up, or perhaps coming to terms with her handicap. We could still sense that air of hopelessness and helplessness around her and there was no spark of life in her eyes. She is still wildly terrified of people, her eyes ablaze with fear and apprehension whenever we went near, and with each gentle touch, she would flinch as though we were about to hit her, so deep seated is her trauma ...

As we embark on another journey with these young survivors, we invite you to join us in helping them fufil their full potential and to start life anew.

If you would like to help them in any way, be it monetary wise in defraying the cost of their treatment, or otherwise,we would love to hear from you. Please e-mail us at info@asdsingapore.com or call us at 92590698 if you can help in any way.

I wasn't sure I wanted to look further into the website...too horrific, too sad?

I'm glad I did because the things that struck me most were the remarkable recoveries, the time dedication love and patience of the carers, and the dogs themselves, the continued reference to the fact they were in no way aggressive, not withstanding the trauma they had incurred. I guess a dog really knows when someone is trying to help.

We can help. When you decide to bring a pet into your life, give an SPCA or ASD(Action for Singapore Dogs) animal a home.

Don’t go to a pet store. Don’t go to a breeder. Choose to save a life and know that they will be grateful for life.

I got a calender from ASD and they have a picture, which looks just like Honey... but her name was Hannah... Probably the new owners Maggie and Robert gave her a new name...
She's now doing very well, even with one leg amputated.....

I agree with you Colleen, people should never buy purebred or pedigreed dogs from pet breeders or pet stores, when dogs waiting for adoption are available free from animal rescue groups like
Action for Singapore Dogs (ASD) http://www.asdsingapore.com/,
SPCA http://www.spca.org.sg/
Animal Lovers League http://www.animalloversleague.com/
or adopt a stray dog from the streets.

Responsible dog owners should sterilised their dogs.
Sterilisation help to reduce the over-population of stray dogs and pet abandonment.
Keeping a pet is for life. Keeping a pet involves a lifetime commitment to love, provide and care for it.
Never abandoned your companion animal.
